Nicole Kidman has opened up about how battling a childhood stutter shaped her acting career.

The Baywatch star recalled moments when she would try to speak but found that the words simply “wouldn’t come out.”

She had a stutter between the ages of four and six, which she believes may be why she is softly spoken.

While conversing with Attitude Magazine ahead of the release of Practical Magic 2, Nicole confessed that when she was younger, “I'd try to speak and it wouldn't come out.”

After learning about her stutter for the first time, Sandra Bullock exclaimed, “I never knew you had a stutter? How old were you?”

“Um four, five, six. Through those ages,” explained Nicole, before adding, “I would know exactly what I wanted to say and I'd be almost excited to say, but it wouldn't, it would just take time to come out.”

Nicole continued, “Sometimes I'll have like a second or two of it, but I've learned a technique, and I've learned how to manage it.,” before adding, “Yeah, and it is probably why I speak softly.”

She addressed how her childhood stutter influenced her acting, Kidman said the habit of stopping, pausing and thinking before speaking ultimately became useful both professionally and in everyday life.

Nicole previously revealed that her struggle with stuttering was partly linked to her shyness.

“I am very shy – really shy – I even had a stutter as a kid, which I slowly got over, but I still regress into that shyness," she admitted.

Nicole mentioned, “So I don't like walking into a crowded restaurant by myself. I don't like going to a party by myself.”

She noted, “I remember when I was little just being so excited to get it out and I couldn't get it out. I just remember everyone always saying to me, ‘Calm down, think about what you're gonna say.’”

Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock have been busy promoting the highly anticipated sequel to their 1998 classic Practical Magic.
