Love is in Venice!
Penélope Cruz and Javier Bardem could hold their emotions after their upcoming film, Bunker, made history at the 2026 Venice Film Festival.
On Tuesday, September 8th, the couple attended the 83rd edition of the festival, where the movie received the longest standing ovation.
The videos and photos that emerged on social media show the Vicky Cristina Barcelona star sharing a sweet hug with her husband before she broke down in tears.
Cruz is visibly seen unable to hold back tears as the audience clapped for her and the rest of the Bunker crew.
What is Bunker's plot?
The Spanish pair – who have been married in real life since 2010- played a real-life couple in the new film, as they navigated marital life challenges.
Cruz and Bardem's film focuses on the life of two individuals – whose 17-year marriage is tested when the actor's character, an architect, accepts an offer to build a survivalist bunker for a tech billionaire.
For the unversed, the movie, which is directed by French filmmaker Florian Zeller, also serves as a fierce critique of Silicon Valley tech billionaires, a theme that attracted the duo.

Speaking about his new challenging role alongside his real-life wife, Bardem added, "Nothing, we are really good at creating fiction and reality. Otherwise, we would not survive in this job."
While Cruz has expressed her relatability with the character she played in Bunker, calling the contempt of the role is mandatory to highlight due to its sensitivity.
She also reflected that the tech billionaires behind social networks and artificial intelligence who imagine a future in which computers and robots have replaced humans is something that needs to be addressed.
"I wonder, is there really some gene they're missing, which makes them lose their empathy? My hope is that young people are actually beginning to realise they’re being manipulated, and I hope they’ll react because they’re very intelligent," Penélope Cruz noted.
It is worth noting that Bunker is set for the wider release in early 2027.
