As the world mourned King Harald and key royal figures attended the funeral of the late monarch to pay their respects, there was one unexpected person who was spotted during the King's final rites.
Marius Borg Høiby was seen making a low-key appearance at his grandfather, who was not related to him by blood, laid to rest in a state funeral 12 days after his death at age 89.
Members of Norway's royal family, as well as royals and government officials from around the world, including Prince William and Princess Anne gathered in Oslo on Wednesday, September 9, for the ceremony at Oslo Cathedral.
In June, the son of Queen Mette-Marit was sentenced to four years in prison after being found guilty of rape and other offences.
Since July, he has been out of jail and under house arrest at the royal estate of Skaugum.
Despite being under house arrest, Marius, who once shared a close bond with Harald, had been granted permission to attend King Harald's funeral and was pictured at Oslo Cathedral on Wednesday.
The 29-year-old walked behind Harald's eldest grandchild, Maud Angelica Behn, helping to move the casket from the palace's Red Salon.
"Many people will understand that a person should be allowed to grieve for someone who was important in his life. At the same time, it is difficult to ignore the situation Marius himself is in," royal reporter Caroline Vagle said.

Marius Borg Høiby allowed to grieve late King Harald
Marius was permitted to visit the late King Harald in the hospital before the monarch's death on Friday, August 28.
He was also seen carrying the bier of Harald through the Royal Palace in Oslo on August 31, alongside King Haakon, 53, and his daughter and heir, Crown Princess Ingrid Alexandra, 22, and King Haakon's son, Prince Sverre Magnus, 20.
About Marius Borg Høiby charges
In total, Metter-Marit's son from a previous relationship, who is not in the line of succession, was accused of 38 crimes and four rapes.
Among the charges are four rapes of four different women, abuse in relationships, violent acts, public disorder, property damage, violation of a restraining order against an ex-girlfriend, illegal intimate recordings of women, death threats, harassment of police officers, and traffic offences.
