King Frederik has confirmed his appearance at his “Uncle Harald’s” funeral.
A day before King Harald V’s state funeral in Oslo, the Danish Royals took to their Instagram account on Tuesday, September 8, to share which members of the Royal Family will accompany the monarch to Norway to attend the somber event.
In the update, Amalienborg Palace shared that Queen Mary, who was previously forced to pull out of the funeral due to Queen Margrethe II’s sudden hospitalization, will now join her husband Frederik X on his trip to Norway.
Moreover, the Royal Couple will also be joined by Margrethe’s sister, Princess Benedikte.
The post, which included a carousel of throwback photos featuring the Danish Royals’ family-like bond with the Norwegian Royal Family and King Harald V, emphasized on the “close and warm” relationship between the two countries and their Royal Families.
“This week, the final farewell to King Harald V of Norway will take place. Over the years, the Danish royal family has had a close and warm relationship with the Norwegian king and his family: from state visits and official events to family holidays and private gatherings in both Norway and Denmark,” read the post.
Reminiscing Frederik and Mary’s 2024 trip to the neighbouring country, the Royals shared, “During the royal couple's state visit to Norway in May 2024, His Majesty the King himself expressed the special relationship between the two royal houses in a speech.”
In the speech, the King of Denmark stated, "Dear Uncle Harald and Aunt Sonja. Mary and I always look forward to visiting Norway. We 'cozied up' with you and the Crown Prince Couple, because we are not only neighbors and colleagues, but family and friends."
Sharing about the funeral appearance, the statement added, “Their Majesties the King and Queen, His Royal Highness the Crown Prince and Her Royal Highness Princess Benedikte will attend the state funeral in Oslo, which will take place on Wednesday, September 9. Her Majesty Queen Margrethe has unfortunately had to cancel.”
For those unaware, King Harald V of Norway was a second cousin once removed of King Frederik X of Denmark.
