Tom Cruise is eyeing his Oscar as he transforms into the most hated man on earth!
On Wednesday, September 9, Warner Bros. dropped the final trailer for Digger, giving audiences a close look at Tom Cruise's dramatic transformation into Digger Rockwell.
The film, a satirical apocalyptic, is directed and co-written by four-time Academy Award winner Alejandro G. Iñárritu.
Unlike Cruise's string of action movies, Digger is a dark comedy about an impending disaster, where the actor plays Digger Rockwell, an eccentric Southern billionaire who has been described as both the most powerful and hated man in the world.
The final trailer shows Cruise, an oil baron, whose rig in the South Pole causes a disaster so large that it causes tsunamis.
After unleashing a disaster that threatens civilisation, Digger sets out on a chaotic mission to convince everyone that he actually can save humanity.
Fans react to Tom Cruise performance in 'Digger'
Reacting to the trailer, fans flooded the social media platforms, praising the actor on the chaotic trailer and his own performance.
"FINALLY! Tom Cruise acting out his age!" one fan penned in the comment section of the trailer.
Another fan chimed in, "Your mission should to accept the oscar award."
"We’re witnessing one of the best movies of this year with the topical issue of Global Warming and political denial. I’m in," said a third user.
In an interview with Empire, Alejandro G. Iñárritu spoke about how the storyline of Digger explores the "three ancient forces", which are greed, power, and responsibility.
Besides Tom Cruise, the Digger stars Oscar nominees Sandra Hüller (Anatomy of a Fall) and Jesse Plemons.
The ensemble also includes Oscar winner Riz Ahmed, John Goodman as the President of the United States, Michael Stuhlbarg, Emma D’Arcy, Sophie Wilde (Talk to Me), Burn Gorman, and Robert John Burke.
