Saif Ali Khan is sharing his brutally honest verdict about Cocktail more than a decade after its release.
During a recent conversation with Gulf News, the 56-year-old Indian actor and film producer opened up about his 2012 hit rom-com Cocktail, in which he starred alongside Deepika Padukone and Diana Penty.
Despite the movie being commercially successful, the Kal Ho Naa Ho star feels like acting in the project was a major career mistake.
Speaking to the outlet, Saif bluntly called Cocktail “an inevitable mistake” and regarded the film’s script as “slightly regressive.”
The actor, who portrayed Gautam “Gutlu” Kapoor in the movie, shared that he chose to play the role not because he liked or connected with the character, but because his involvement helped the filmmakers actually getting the film made.
“I did the part because we were producing it, it was an inevitable mistake, 100 percent that was a mistake, and that was a slightly regressive script choice,” he said.
The Hum Tum star continued, “Otherwise, it was a breezy fun entertainer. I didn’t do it for the role, I did it so the film could get made. You do things for various reasons. I knew fully well that the exciting role is the Veronica part but it’s one of those things you do anyway."
