Practical Magic 2 is casting a spell at the box office with the highly anticipated sequel.
Warner Bros./Alcon’s Practical Magic 2 is on track for a $30 million domestic debut after bringing in an estimated $12.5 million Friday.
As per Deadline, the projected opening is close to Sandra Bullock’s The Lost City, which debuted with $30.4 million and finished with $105.3 million domestically.
The film debut also trails Bullock’s 2009 Ryan Reynolds rom-com The Proposal, which opened to $33.6 million and finished with $163.9 million domestically.
The big question is whether the film can avoid a front-loaded run, as is often the case with female-driven features.
Its 92% Rotten Tomatoes audience score offers some optimism.
The first NFL weekend could complicate the box office, though the impact is expected to fall mainly on holdovers.
Meanwhile, Spider-Man: Brand New Day isn’t guaranteed to overtake Star Wars: The Force Awakens as the highest-grossing domestic movie by Sunday.
Universal’s The Odyssey is on track to cross the $600 million mark by Sunday after projecting an $8.1 million ninth-weekend haul, down 38% at 1,983 theaters.
Coyote Vs. Acme continues to hold strong in fourth, posting $1.3 million Friday and targeting $5.8 million for its third weekend, bringing its domestic total to $47.3 million.

Practical Magic 2 is a romantic fantasy sequel to the 1998 cult classic, directed by Susanne Bier and starring returning leads Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman as sisters Sally and Gillian Owens, alongside Dianne Wiest and Stockard Channing.
Based on Alice Hoffman’s 2021 novel The Book of Magic, the sequel picks up nearly three decades later, following Sally as she tries to protect her adult daughters, Kylie (Joey King) and Antonia (Maisie Williams), from the Owens family curse by making them forget their magical abilities.
Practical Magic 2 was officially released in theaters in the United States on Thursday, September 10, 2026.
