Sydney Sweeney sparks controversy over new steamy ad, Scooter Braun speaks out

Sydney Sweeney has come under fire once again over her bold on-screen choices. 

The Anyone But You actress – who last year received immense backlash due to a viral American Eagle advertisement controversy- has now teamed up with sports trading app Novig.  

Earlier this week, Sydney took to her Instagram account to share a sensual video clip of herself, promoting sports, which later turned into a new subject of the town.

"Just sports @novig," Sydney captioned her post, which garnered millions of her followers, criticising her for making the prestigious campaign into a drama through a bold appearance in the new advertisement.

One fan criticised Sydney, while highlighting the double standards of the social media platform, stating, "Love how @instagram allows for stuff like this, but the moment I post something in a bikini, the post is removed."

"By far the worst commercial I have ever seen," another bashed. 

A third commented, "Why is no one understanding how disgusting this is."

"She’s got the whole internet malfunctioning. AGAINNNN," a fourth said.

Another added, "This is sad at this point. Can’t sell or be a normal girl if she doesn’t use her body as a tool. Sexualizing sports like this is crazy."

Sydney Sweeney's previous Eagle Jeans advertising campaign and controversy 

For the unfamiliar, Sydney Sweeney has previously garnered so much online backlash when she featured in an Eagle Jeans advertising campaign, centred around a play on words using "jeans" and "genes," which critics accused of subtly nodding to racial superiority and eugenics. 

American Eagle campaign featured the tagline "Sydney Sweeney has great jeans." 

In the commercial; the actress's remarks that traits like hair and eye colour are passed down from parents before stating, "My jeans are blue."

However, she is now under fire again despite clarifying her stance on the bold choice in the new sports campaign; she said, "The concept is simple: cut through the noise and put the focus entirely on sports. The campaign brings that idea to life with confidence, humour and a playful edge." 

Scooter Braun breaks silence on Syndey Sweeney's harsh scrutiny 

Sydney Sweeney's boyfriend, Scooter Braun, whom she has been dating since last year, also took to his Instagram stories to share his first statement after the viral ad. 

In his new post, the former record producer shared the New York Times' post, honouring the victims and the officials from the deadly event of 9/11. 

"Heroes," Scooter wrote over the post.

So far, neither Sydney Sweeney nor her spokespersons have shared their response to the backlash.
