Peaky Blinders is indeed incomplete without Cillian Murphy!
After wrapping his brief role as Thomas Shelby, also known as Tommy, in the superhit Netflix series, the creators of the television show, Steven Knight and Tom Harper, have dished out surprising details related to the upcoming sequel series.
The show consists of six seasons and a full-length film, namely, Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man.
Notably, the directors have now revealed that Netflix has just preordered Season 2.
In a conversation with Zoe Ball in the Afternoon podcast, Knight added, "Peaky [Blinders]: The New Generation, I guess you can call it, is already in the can."
"It is so good. I mean, I would say that, wouldn't I? But it is really, really good," the 67-year-old English film-maker added.
Sam Neill to honour in new Peaky Blinders sequel
During their interview, Knight and Harper also teased that the New Zealand-based actor, Sam Neill, who died at the age of 78 in July of this year, will also be honoured in the upcoming instalment.
The late actor served for a long time in Peaky Blinders, as he played the main antagonist, Chief Inspector Chester Campbell, in the first two seasons of the BBC and Netflix crime drama Peaky Blinders.
"When [Peaky Blinders] was first a BBC Two drama and people would go, 1920s Birmingham, with Birmingham accents and gangsters?" Knight added.
He additionally noted, "Cillian [Murphy] was saying that he and Benjamin [Zephaniah] were shooting the first two or three days, and they got together and said, 'What do you think? Is this gonna work?' And they were like, 'Nah, I don't think so."
Cillian Murphy to return in Peaky Blinders new sequel?
However, Cillian Murphy – who died at the end of the Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man movie released in March 2026- is also set to join the Peaky Blinders season 2 team, but this time behind the camera.
Multiple media reports claimed that insiders said the actor will renew his contract with Steven Knight and Tom Harper as a producer this time.
So far, neither the Peaky Blinders team nor Cillian Murphy has responded to his rumoured producing role in the upcoming sequel.
