WhatsApp prepares to launch Restricted Chat feature for improved privacy
WhatsApp is reportedly preparing to release a new privacy feature, enabling users to keep selected conversations off their other linked devices, ensuring greater privacy to all users.
As per WABetaInfo, the feature, called Restricted Chat, was spotted in the WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.26.36.5.
The feature would prevent certain conversations from synchronising with linked devices like WhatsApp Web, desktop apps, and more.
The significant feature would help individuals in keeping sensitive chats limited to certain devices and that would only be your primary phone while continuing to access others chats across several devices.
Currently, the Meta-owned WhatsApp users are only able to connect their accounts to nearly four devices. While this increases the convenience of messages, the conversations can be accessible on computers, phones, and other tablets linked to the similar account.

Currently, the feature is under the developmental stage, with the company yet to officially announce its release.
The forthcoming feature would seemingly build on WhatsApp’s existing Advanced Chat Privacy option, offering additional protections for select chats.
These include preventing chat exports, stopping media from being automatically saved to a device’s gallery and preventing messages from being used with Meta AI.
The latest feature would add an extra layer of protection by preventing restricted chats from appearing on linked devices altogether.
Restricted Chat should not be confused with Chat Lock, which protects conversations from being easily opened on the device itself. Instead, the new feature is designed to keep selected chats from being synchronised across devices.
