Courteney Cox has broken her silence on the tragic death of her Scream co-star Hayden Panettiere, reflecting on the loss of the actress and their time working together.
The Friends star spoke fondly about the late actress, who died at a residence in Greenville, South Carolina in what authorities said was suspected as a drug “overdose.”
While conversing with Entertainment Weekly at the Toronto International Film Festival, Cox
called the late star “a really wonderful actor.”
“The last time I worked with her we had a great time,” he said of Panettiere, who played Kirby Reed in the films.
Cox, who has portrayed Gale Weathers throughout the Scream franchise, starred alongside Panettiere in Scream 4 (2011) and Scream VI (2023).
She described her as “really fun and happy and smart,” while reflecting on the tragic nature of her premature passing.
“It's really sad,” said Cox, before adding, “It's obviously horrible.”
To note, Panettiere has been remembered as “an incredible light and a force of nature” after her death at the age of 36.
The former child star, who was known for her roles on the hit NBC series Heroes and musical drama Nashville, was found dead in Greenville, South Carolina, August 16 afternoon.
She leaves behind an 11-year-old daughter.
