Bob Mackie has breathed his last.
On Monday, September 14, PEOPLE reported that the legendary fashion designer died at the age of 87 at his home in Palm Springs, California.
In a statement released on his official Instagram handle, it was shared, “It is with a heavy heart that we share the news that Mr. Bob Mackie passed away today. He lived his 87 years to the fullest, fulfilling his dream of being a Fashion and Costume Designer, which is all he ever wanted to do. His genius and extraordinary designs will live on forever, continuing to bring beauty into this world.”
Speaking to the outlet, Mackie’s representative shared his cause of death, revealing that he died of pneumonia.
According to Mayo Clinic, “Pneumonia is an infection that inflames the air sacs in one or both lungs. The air sacs may fill with fluid or pus (purulent material), causing cough with phlegm or pus, fever, chills, and difficulty breathing.”

Bob Mackie was an American fashion designer and costumier, best known for his dressing of numerous entertainment personalities for television, movies, concerts, and live stage shows.
Throughout his career, he had worked with several top artists, including Cher, Dolly Parton, Elton John, Tina Turner, and Sabrina Carpenter.
He was also the costume designer for The Carol Burnett Show during its entire eleven-year run.
Journey Gunderson, the Executive Director of National Comedy Center, told Fox News, "Throughout his extraordinary body of work, Bob Mackie understood the unique power of costume in comedy – to help create a character and become part of the creative energy that drove the comedy itself.”
She added, "His work with Carol Burnett and the ensemble of ‘The Carol Burnett Show,’ with Cher starting with ‘The Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour,’ as well as with Joan Rivers, Bette Midler and Lucille Ball, helped shape some of comedy’s most memorable moments on television and stage."
Bob Mackie is survived by his granddaughter Alyssa Townsend, his great-granddaughters Kyla and Keira Townsend and his former wife, Lulu Porter.
