Annie is set for a triumphant return to stage after decades.
On Tuesday, September 15, PEOPLE reported that the Tony Award-winning 1997 musical Annie has been confirmed to return to Broadway to mark its milestone 50th anniversary.
The much-anticipated show is set to be directed by Tony winner Sam Pinkleton and will be up to enchant fans in fall 2027 – exactly five decades after the musical’s debut.
It has also been shared that casting, theater, and exact dates for the show are yet to be announced.
Speaking to the outlet, Pinkleton said, “If you ask any of my closest friends what I love more than anything on the planet, everyone will have the same answer: Annie. Annie is everything I love about New York City: gutsy, fearless, and funny as hell.”
“It’s a perfectly constructed musical comedy that my collaborators and I will run toward with joy and abandon — with open hearts and total adoration for this legendary show that has made generations fall in love with musicals,” he added.
The new Annie productions aims to keep the original’s “heart, optimism, and timeless spirit” while presenting the story from a fresh theatrical perspective.

Commenting on Instagram, thrilled fans expressed their excitement about Annie revival.
“Can’t wait to see Cole Escola back in curls!!!!!!!” wrote a first, while a second wittily penned, “Happy ANNIE-versary!”
A third added, “i’m always down for annie.”

Annie is a popular Broadway musical that first premiered back in 1977 at the Alvin Theater, which is now the Neil Simon Theater, in New York.
It follows that story of a young orphan named Annie, who is adopted by a billionaire as he tries to rebuild his public image.
After receiving immense praise on Broadway, the musical was later adapted into multiple films, including the 1982 adaptation starring Carol Burnett, Tim Curry, and Bernadette Peters.
