Houston Texans wide receiver Nico Collins is dealing with a hamstring injury that has put his availability for the Week 2 game against the Cincinnati Bengals in question.
Limited at practice and tests underway
Collins was limited during Wednesday’s practice and will undergo tests to check the severity of the issue. Reports say he suffered the injury during Wednesday’s practice. ESPN’s Adam Schefter noted that while the injury does not appear serious, his status for Sunday “is in jeopardy.”
Early signs offer some hope. Collins was able to take part in some drills which is a positive sign for a soft-tissue problem. Still, hamstring injuries can be tricky and sometimes sideline players longer than expected.
Strong start in Week 1
In the season opener, Collins led the Texans with seven catches for 75 yards and a touchdown in a 36-31 loss to the Buffalo Bills. He remains the team’s top receiving threat and a key target for quarterback C.J. Stroud.
The Texans already face other challenges in the passing game. Rookie Jayden Higgins is out for the season with a torn ACL. If Collins cannot play, the team will look more to players such as Kayshon Boutte and Xavier Hutchinson to fill the gap.
History with hamstring issues
Collins has dealt with hamstring problems before. In 2024 he missed five games with a similar injury that landed him on injured reserve. That history makes the current situation worth watching closely.
Thursday’s practice will be an important test. It is usually the most physical session of the week and players who sit out often do not play on Sunday. Further updates on the injury report are expected later in the week.
The Texans host the Bengals on Sunday, September 20, at NRG Stadium. Collins’ presence or absence could play a big role in how Houston’s offense performs. Fans and fantasy managers will be monitoring the practice reports closely for the latest word on his status.
