Tensions boiled over during the opening round of the inaugural Biltmore Championship in Asheville when PGA Tour player Alejandro Tosti was left stranded on the course.
On his ninth hole of the day, Tosti’s veteran caddie, Cliff Ellis, unexpectedly quit, dropped the golf bag and walked off without warning.
A shocking walkout
The dramatic exit occurred after a period of friction between the player and loop handler. Reports indicate that after Tosti carded a string of consecutive pars, the situation escalated.
Ellis took off his official caddie bib, handed over the gear and exited the venue, leaving onlookers and playing partners thoroughly stunned.
Carrying on alone
Tosti, an Argentine professional known for his fiery competitive spirit on tour, was forced to carry his own bag and manage his yards for the remainder of the round.
Spectators stepped in to offer encouragement but the distraction took an obvious toll on his rhythm as he scrambled to finish the round without a bagman.

While caddie replacements are permitted midway through a tournament round, Tosti was unable to secure a substitute before completing the round. Tournament officials were aware of the incident.
