Carrot Top was allegedly blackmailed with a shocking threat prior to his suicide attempt.
The 61-year-old American comedian, who was recently rushed to a Las Vegas hospital after attempting suicide, was allegedly being blackmailed over a sex tape.
According to court documents filed in Broward County, Florida, Top’s lawyer Ronnie Bitman alleged that musician Brian Evans had demanded $500,000 in connection with a sexually explicit recording involving the comedian, reported Page Six.
Evans served as a previous opening performer for Carrot Top’s long-running show at Las Vegas’s Luxor Hotel and Casino.
In the filing, Bitman claimed, “Evans demands immediate payment of significant sums and states that, absent immediate payment, a sexually explicit recording of Thompson will be filed in the public court file so that it may be obtained and disseminated by the press and other parties.”
The documents also included an email from Evans to Bitman, in which the 56-year-old singer demanded $500,000 “in immediately available funds, in exchange for resolution of all claims against” Top, adding that in case of not meeting his demand, he would release the clip in a public docket.
“It is not a threat. I am not offering to create coverage, stop coverage, or trade silence for money. I cannot control what outlets write after a public motion is filed. The only thing that stops coverage is if we both stop filing anything,” read the email.
It continued, “I am telling you … that I would rather resolve the claims against your client [Thompson] than continue this motion practice, it is not an offer your client will ever see again — not even remotely close.”
In a statement to the outlet, Brian Evans said that the email was “intended to be confidential” and claimed that he “never threatened — ever — to post any video anywhere in exchange for a settlement.”
He also stated that he had deleted the video “a long time ago.”
In an update shared by Carrot Top’s representation about his health, the comedian is recovering in the hospital and is receiving the care and support he needs.
