Selena Gomez has opened up about her hopes of having children, revealing she still plans to “have my own children” two years after sharing that medical issues prevent her from carrying a pregnancy.

While speaking at Fast Company Innovation Festival in New York City this month, the 34-year-old entertainer and businesswoman spoke with Elyse Cohen and Fast Company editor Yasmin Gagne, revealing she plans to have children “eventually.”

Gomez, who married Benny Blanco nearly a year ago, was asked about the achievement she is most proud of at her mental health-focused nonprofit, Rare Impact Fund.

She answered, “I think what makes me proud is knowing that we're truly making a difference... I think there's a bunch of stigma around everything and I have a 13-year-old sister who means the world to me, and eventually I'll have my own children, and this is something that I don't want to be taboo.”

The Only Murder In The Building star continued, “I don't mind if people think it's "out there," but I love what we have accomplished and I think we'll just continue to grow in that manner and hopefully continue to do great things.”

Gomez’s latest remarks follow a 2024 Vanity Fair interview in which she disclosed that medical issues prevent her from carrying children.

“I haven’t ever said this,” she told the publication at the time, “but I unfortunately can’t carry my own children.”

Gomez elaborated, “I have a lot of medical issues that would put my life and the baby’s in jeopardy. That was something I had to grieve for a while.”

Although her path to motherhood may “look different,” Gomez said she still hopes to become a mom someday. “It’s not necessarily the way I envisioned it,” she said.

Gomez added she is in a “much better place” and sees surrogacy and adoption as “huge possibilities” for becoming a mother.

She shared that she is excited for the journey and said that, through either option, the child will still be “mine.”
