Warner Bros. has delayed Gremlins 3 to 2028, pushing back the highly anticipated return of the beloved horror-comedy franchise.
David Zaslav, CEO and president of Warner Bros. Discovery, first revealed the project during an investor call in 2025.
As reported by Variety, Warner Bros. has delayed Gremlins 3 from November 19, 2027, to October 6 2028.
Steven Spielberg is returning as executive producer alongside Maiden Voyage’s Eleanor Columbus.
Chris Columbus, known for directing Harry Potter, will produce and direct, while Hannah Marks is penning the script from an original draft by Columbus, Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein.
The film is being produced by Kristie Macosko Krieger and Holly Bario for Amblin Entertainment, with Michael Barnathan and Mark Radcliffe producing through 26th Street Pictures.
Details about the title, story and cast have yet to be revealed.
“Few titles are as beloved and iconic as ‘Gremlins,’ and we’re beyond excited to bring it back for both lifelong fans and a whole new generation,” Warner Bros. Pictures’ president of development and production Jesse Ehrman said in a statement at the time of the announcement of Gremlins 3.
He added at the time, “It’s a privilege to be working alongside Steven [Spielberg], Chris [Columbus], and the entire creative team, and we look forward to audiences experiencing the next installment of the magic, mayhem and heart of Gremlins on the big screen in 2027.”
Gremlins franchise plot and box office
Joe Dante’s 1984 Gremlins followed Billy, a young boy whose adorable Mogwai transforms into a chaotic gremlin after two rules are broken: never get it wet or feed it after midnight.
The original Gremlins was a major box office hit, earning $212 million worldwide on an estimated $11 million budget.
Its 1990 sequel, Gremlins 2: The New Batch, grossed $41 million but later became a cult classic.
