Sweden's next heir to the throne, Crown Princess Victoria, has launched her awareness campaign to fight cancer!

As this year's fall season is here, Her Royal Highness has determined to raise awareness through her long-running Cancer Foundation's Pink Bandet campaign.

On Thursday, October 1st, the Royal Family's official Instagram page shared a statement, revealing her new vision and theme, which will be highlighted in this year's awareness program.

"For the eighteenth year in a row, H.K.H. The Crown Princess is the official protector of the Cancer Foundation's Pink Bandet campaign, which runs in October," the Palace's aides stated.

The statement continued explaining, "This year's pink ribbon is designed by the illustrator and all-artist Owe Gustafson and the ribbon is adorned by the well-known pink elephant from Five ants are more than four elephants."

Notably, the motive behind the Pink Elephant symbol for this year's cancer awareness is to show wisdom and strength in supporting each other and walking together in the fight against cancer.

The Crown Princess of Sweden serves as the long-standing official patron of the Swedish Cancer Society's Pink Ribbon Campaign to raise awareness and fund breast cancer research.

Every October, she helps kick off Breast Cancer Awareness Month by meeting with cancer researchers and wearing the annual pink ribbon.

Other family members, such as her aunt Princess Christina, have faced public diagnoses and treatments for breast cancer, which may lead to confusion regarding the family and the disease.

Each year, approximately 8,200 people in Sweden receive a breast cancer diagnosis, of whom around 60 are men.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer for women, and today, thanks to constantly advancing research, about 87% of women who receive this diagnosis live 10 more years.

What motivated Princess Victoria to raise cancer awareness?

The journey of raising cancer awareness began when an elder sister of King Carl XVI Gustaf, Princess Christina, revealed in 2010 that she had been fighting breast cancer since the Northern summer.

"I have had surgery three times, and have undergone both chemotherapy and radiation therapy; I am grateful that Sweden is a world leader in this area," the 67-year-old royal member added.

Princess Christina's illness was kept quiet by the royal family and was undetectable during the wedding festivities of the Princess' niece, Crown Princess Victoria, in June.

But in 2011, the heir apparent to the Swedish throne turned her aunt’s illness into an awareness campaign.
