Oprah Winfrey has built an impressive real estate portfolio spanning California, Colorado and Hawaii.
Inside Oprah Winfrey’s impressive real estate portfolio
With properties reportedly worth around $150 million combined, the media mogul’s homes range from sprawling estates to private retreats in some of the country’s most sought-after locations.
Oprah Winfrey is primarily based in Montecito, California, while also owning luxury properties in celebrity-favourite destinations including Telluride and Maui.
She affectionately calls her main home “Promised Land” and has described it as a beautiful space she created for herself.
Promised Land in Montecito
Oprah’s Montecito “Promised Land” estate has evolved for more than two decades. She bought the original 42-acre property in 2001 for about $50 million, and the estate now includes a 23,000-square-foot mansion, a 6,000-square-foot guesthouse and a private teahouse where she unwinds.
In 2015, Oprah expanded her Montecito estate by buying the 23-acre Seamair Farm for $28.85 million.
Over the years, she has also bought and sold several nearby properties, including a farmhouse-style mansion later purchased by Jennifer Aniston.
Farmhouse in Maui
Oprah expanded her real estate portfolio to Maui in 2002, eventually acquiring more than 100 acres. She added nearly 50 more acres the following year for a combined $8 million.
Her Hawaiian farmhouse features French doors, neutral interiors, high ceilings and a wraparound porch overlooking the island.
Oprah has described her Hawaii home as a cozy, “cashmere” blanket.
In 2023, she expanded her Maui holdings to nearly 1,000 acres by purchasing 870 acres in Kula for $6.6 million.
Ski home in Telluride, Colorado
Oprah has owned a ski home in Telluride, Colorado, since the early 1990s, when she bought a lodge for $1.4 million.
Her Colorado holdings later expanded with 60 acres in nearby Mountain Village, purchased for $10.85 million in 2014, followed by a $14 million furnished home in 2015.
Oprah originally planned to use the Telluride mansion as a temporary home while developing her nearby 60-acre property, though it’s unclear whether those plans materialized.
She still owns the five-bedroom home, which features a theater, indoor hot tub and glass bridge connecting the living room to the primary suite.
Oprah Winfrey Chicago, Miami and Washington estates
Oprah’s real estate portfolio has also extended to Chicago, Miami and Washington.
Her former homes include a Chicago condo sold for $4.6 million in 2015, a Fisher Island penthouse sold for $6.5 million in 2001 and the 43-acre Madroneagle estate, which she bought for $8.3 million in 2018 and sold for $14 million in 2021.
