Freddie Jackson, the singer known for the hit song, You Are My Lady, has passed away at the age of 60.

The R&B legend's family announced the heartbreaking news on Tuesday, October 6, with an emotional statement reading, "It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we share the passing of our beloved Freddie Jackson, who went home to rest last night."

Freddie Jackson's cause of death 

While it was revealed that the singer passed away on Monday, October 5, a cause of death was not disclosed.

In the tribute, Freddie's family described him as a "kind, generous soul who loved his fans, his family, his friends, and his music with everything he had".


"To everyone who ever sang along, danced, or felt something when Freddie took the stage: thank you. You were family to him, and he carried your love with him always," the statement added.

Freddie Jackson dies three days after his 69th birthday

According to his family's post, the singer was born in October 2, 1957, meaning Freddie died just three days after his 69th birthday.

Freddie Jackson's early career

Freddie became one of R&B's biggest voices in the 1980s, as he dominated the charts with charming love songs, including Rock Me Tonight, Have You Ever Loved Somebody, Jam Tonight, and You Are My Lady.

Before garnering attention for his solo career, Freddie sang with the band Mystic Merlin and backed Melba Moore.

After the success of the Capitol album Rock Me Tonight, his 1986 follow-up, Just Like the First Time, also went platinum and kept him at the front of the R&B field. 

His most recent album, My First Love, was released in 2023.

Freddie Jackson's kidney disease

In September 2024, Jackson shared his kidney disease diagnosis and announced plans to work with the National Kidney Foundation. 

Freddie Jackson's acting gigs

The New York native appeared as himself in an episode of Family Matters and the film King of New York.

He also played Sam in an episode of The Golden Girls.
