Aston Villa ended Manchester City’s 100% winning start to the Premier League season with a 2-1 victory, with Nicolas Jackson's impressive performance helping in leading towards victory.

City accomplished their opening seven league matches; however, it suffered their first defeat against Unai Emery's side, who persisted with their remarkable latest record against the reigning English football giants.

The victory marked Villa's fifth win in their last seven meetings with City and their fourth consecutive home victory against them at Villa Park.

Moreover, the result coincided with the fourth anniversary of Emery's appointment as manager.

Villa held victorious when captain John McGinn capitalised on a poor touch by City defender Marc Guehi before setting up Jackson.

The forward turned inside Elliot Anderson and fired a powerful finish past goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.

City pushed for an equaliser, with Iliman Ndiaye striking the post ahead of Erling Haaland restored parity early in the second half.

The Norwegian striker rose highest to head home Ndiaye's cross from the right.

However, Villa retook the lead just eight minutes later. Jackson connected with a low cross from substitute Ibrahim Mbaye, sending a first-time shot underneath Donnarumma's left hand to secure his second goal of the match.

City continued browsing for another equaliser; however, Ian Maatsen cleared a goalbound header from Haaland late in the game to preserve Villa's lead.

Despite the defeat, Manchester City remained three points clear at the top of the Premier League table. Second-placed Arsenal were slated to host Everton later in the day.

Meanwhile, Villa successfully secured his position in the top half of the standings after securing their first home league victory of the season.
