The Royal Family has offered a new glimpse of Sophie’s Caribbean tour, highlighting her work to raise awareness about eye health.

Taking to Instagram on November 5, the official Instagram account of the Royal Family shared a few clicks of Duchess Sophie in Antigua and Barbuda for a high-profile engagement.

The carousel opened with a photo, where the Duchess of Edinburgh is seen standing, reviewing the services provided at the center.

The caption reads, “As Global Ambassador for the @IAPB, The Duchess of Edinburgh visited Antigua and Barbuda to attend the inaugural Global Summit for Eye Health, held alongside the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting.”

Other photos show the princess at a local eye clinic, where she meets cataract patients, surgeons and nurses who recently trained in India through the Cure Blindness programme.

Notably, the visit came amid King Charles and Queen Camilla’s nine-day Caribbean tour that recently concluded after successful public engagements.

In her capacity as Global Ambassador for the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB), Sophie also delivered a powerful keynote speech, calling for the urgent need for greater global action to prevent avoidable sight loss.

Prince Edward’s wife, in her address, stressed that treating avoidable blindness is just as important as tackling any other major global health challenge.

She noted that preventable vision loss limits people’s opportunities and choices, adding that affordable and effective treatments can bring major social and economic benefits.

King Charles’s sister-in-law also expressed gratitude to the government of host nation Antigua and Barbuda.

She also thanked co-hosting nations Bangladesh, Guyana, Nigeria, and Ireland.

The summit brought together world leaders, health organisations and international partners to strengthen commitments, expand access to quality eye care and make eye health a global development priority.
