Ajay Devgn doesn’t question directors, says Amit Sharma
Ajay Devgn earned praise tokens from ‘Maidaan’ director Amit Sharma

Maidaan director, Amit Sharma, has flooded Ajay Devgn with good words for being an actor who completely surrenders to filmmakers.

Recently interviewing for Pinkvilla, he said, “We did a lot of research. I met Ajay sir and asked him about giving a one-hour narration. And he just told me, ‘Tell me what I am supposed to do.’ ”

“He is a director’s actor and will never question them. I saw this man’s transformation from Singham to Syed Abdul Rahim. Today, I openly say it, nobody could have played this role other than Ajay Devgn,” the auteur added.

In the same chat, he disclosed that he initially didn’t believe in the actor’s capability to suitably alter his heroic personality for the role.

It was surprising for Amit to see him fit into the football coach’s shoes without interrogating with inquiries.

The director mentioned, “Ajay sir said yes to Maidaan just by listening to the subject. No questions asked. However, I had my doubts about how will he do it. We often create an image in our minds, and in my head, his image was of Singham.”

Set to release on April 10 this year, the movie traces the journey of Syed Abdul Rahim, who was a sports trainer noted for laying the foundation of modern football in India.
