Shahid Kapoor pays homage to boxer Dingko Singh after demise

Shahid Kapoor extended his condolences as the former Asian Games gold medallist boxer Dingko Singh passed away on Thursday after a long fight with liver cancer.

Dingko Singh received treatment for cancer in 2017. He also contracted COVID-19 last year from which he recovered.

The news of his early death left the nation bereaved and numerous Bollywood celebrities as well as the Prime Minister of India came forward to pen heartfelt messages.

Shahid Kapoor took to his Instagram to praise the talented boxer. He wrote, “Padma Shri Dingko Singh was one of the finest boxers, an award winning sports person who’s brought glory to our nation several times. He will always remain a source of inspiration for the young generation. My sincere condolences to his dear ones. Rest in Peace.”

Prime Minister Modi said, “Shri Dingko Singh was a sporting superstar, an outstanding boxer who earned several laurels and also contributed to furthering the popularity of boxing. Saddened by his passing away. Condolences to his family and admirers. Om Shanti.”

Dingko Singh received various accolades such as the Arjuna Award in 1998 and was also granted Padma Shri, India’s fourth highest civilian award in 2013.
