Amanda Seyfried’s impressive acting skills have taken Elizabeth Holmes back in the days.
The Theranos founder’s new documentary titled You Can See Everything hit the screen on Friday, October 16. Directed by Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim, the project offers a rare glimpse into her life.
In the documentary, Fielder encourages Holmes and her beau Billy Evans to watch The Dropout, a 2022 biographical drama TV miniseries that centers on the rise and fall of Elizabeth Holmes.
The new documentary shows the couple watching the series together in bed.
However, Holmes became emotional during a scene in which Amanda Seyfried, who portrayed the businesswoman, angrily demands money from Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison.
The scene made Elizabeth Holmes burst in tears and ask her partner to turn off the show.
Notably, her portrayal of Holmes won Seyfried her first Emmy Award in 2022. She bagged the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie Award.
About Elizabeth Holmes and Theranos
Elizabeth Anne Holmes is an American businesswoman convicted of fraud in connection with her health technology company Theranos.
Founded in 2003 by then-19-year-old Holmes, who dropped out of Stanford University, Theranos’ valuation soared in early 2010s when the company claimed that it had revolutionized healthcare by running hundreds of medical tests from just a single drop of blood via a fingerprick.
The claim made the company raise more than $700 million from high-profile investors and reach a peak valuation of $9 billion to $10 billion in 2013-15, making Holmes a celebrated billionaire.
However, the technology did not work as advertised as instead of using its proprietary mini-machines, Theranos secretly diluted blood samples and ran them on standard commercial machines, often yielding inaccurate results.
This led to an investigative reporting by The Wall Street Journal, which exposed the deception in 2015, leading to the collapse of Theranos.
