Ryan Reynolds has broken his silence after sparking backlash with his new Deadpool movie announcement.
In a surprising turn of events on July 20, at the Fanatics Fest 2026 in New York, the Blade: Trinity actor announced that a new Deadpool movie is on the way.
Ryan confirmed, he is once again ready to reprise Wade Wilson’s role in the fourth installation of the Deadpool franchise, two years after the smashing success of his 2024’s Deadpool & Wolverine movie with Hugh Jackman.
The IF actor talked about his Marvel return during a panel discussion at the festival noting, "There's a few really deep cuts that I think are missing from the movies."
"I think there's a few deep cuts missing from some of the comics,” he added.
Ryan continued, "There's stuff upcoming, there's eventually, you know, remotely another Deadpool film. It's going to be great."
Soon after a fan made video of him speaking about Deadpool 4 went viral, many fans expressed their utter joy and excitement.
However, the idea of a new Deadpool movie did not sit well with some users as they blasted Ryan with “nobody asked for this” response, in the comment section.
Amid the mixed reaction from fans, Ryan turned to his Instagram account to share a video of him dressed as Deadpool meeting attendees at the festival.
The video was accompanied by a heartfelt confession about the Deadpool movies as it read, “The fans got Deadpool off the ground so many years ago.”
He continues, “Yesterday, 10 years after the first film and exactly 2 years after Deadpool & Wolverine, I felt so lucky to be on the #SDCC floor with everyone whose unapologetic devotion brings so much joy to this world.”
“No handlers, no security, no ropes. WHAT A GIFT. Thanks to everyone I met, who aren’t only cosplaying but world-building. And also… actual Sergeant Slaughter! he added.
The reason behind people outright rejecting the idea of a new Deadpool film is Ryan Reynolds' wife Blake Lively's legal battle with her It Ends with Us director and costar, Justin Baldoni.
In 2024, Blake filed a sexual harrasment lawsuit against Justin prompting him to fireback with a counter lawsuit of defamation.
