On Monday, July 27, a global car company Genesis announced that it has teamed up with Maggie Gyllenhaal for a new project exploring Marilyn Monroe’s life from a fresh perspective, coinciding with what would have been the iconic actress’s milestone 100th birthday.
The new movie, titled Flesh Impact, will star Dakota Johnson as Monroe during the height of her career, while Ellen Burstyn will portray a deeper and previously unseen side of the Hollywood legend.

The snap showed her staring into the camera in a confused but sharp expression.

Johnson’s transformation as Marilyn Monroe failed to impress fans as they swarmed Instagram with their reactions.
“Dakota is amazing girl, but no in Merlin role,” stated one as another added, “Why can’t they cast new faces?!?! It’s strange to see Dacota in Merlin’s role.”
A third commented, “Dakota’s lovely but she’s no Marilyn. Strange casting choice. This theme is also so played. Can we see some new ideas in Hollywood?”
“I don't find her talented enough to play this role,” criticized a fourth, while one more slammed, “Wrong wrong wrong actor choice!!! Looks nothing like Marilyn at all.”
Maggie Gyllenhaal about Flesh Impact
In a new statement, Maggie Gyllenhaal reflected on her admiration for the late Hollywood icon and how she feels about working on the project.
“I’ve always been fascinated by Marilyn Monroe. So, when Genesis first came to me with the idea of a celebratory project for her centennial, I knew I wanted to work together on bringing this story to life,” she said.
The Bride! actress continued, “With ‘Flesh Impact,’ we showcase the timeless icon we know and love through a modern lens that reclaims her story.”
In another statement to Vanity Fair, Gyllenhaal said “I knew, of course, her major performances and I knew the general performance that she had put into the world when she was alive. But I thought, I don’t know if I’m the woman for this job. Let me just take a minute and see what comes up.”
Flesh Impact release date
Dakota Johnson starrer Flesh Impact is slated to premiere in September 2026 at the Venice International Film Festival.
