Suri, the daughter of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, has officially dropped her father's surname, marking a significant personal milestone.
According to voter registration records obtained by PEOPLE, the 20-year-old college student has legally changed her surname from Cruise to Noelle.
While attending Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Suri registered to vote in Allegheny County in October 2024 using the name Suri Noelle. Noelle is Katie Holmes' middle name.
Suri adopted the name Noelle in June 2024
Months ahead of her voter registration, Suri adopted the name Noelle for her June 2024 high school graduation.
Meanwhile, Cruise was seen enjoying Taylor Swift's Eras Tour at Wembley Stadium that weekend.
At the time, a source told that Suri was “showing praise for her mother” by using Noelle — Holmes’ middle name — in such a significant way.
The source also explained that the then-teen wanted to “avoid the paparazzi,” establish her “own identity” and “start fresh at college.”
Holmes later broke her silence on Suri's achievement, sharing rare comments during an interview with Town & Country two months later.
“I’m proud of my daughter. Of course, I will miss the close proximity, but I’m really proud of her and I’m happy,” the proud mom told the outlet, adding, “I remember being this age, this time of beginnings. It’s exciting to learn about yourself, and I loved that time, so it makes me happy to think about it like that.”
At the time, Holmes, 47, publicly dismissed a Daily Mail report on Instagram that alleged Suri had accessed her trust fund upon turning 18.
“Completely false,” Holmes wrote over a screenshot of the article, before adding, “Daily Mail you can stop making stuff up.”
“Enough,” she added in the caption.
Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes relationship
Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes were a high-profile Hollywood couple who married in November 2006 and divorced in 2012, sharing one child, Suri.
After the Top Gun franchise star and the Dawson’s Creek star divorced in August 2012, Suri stayed with her mom, who has admitted in recent years that they “kind of grew up together.”
