Xdinary Heroes' Gunil exit from band raises fans' questions: 'so rushed and unfair'

K-pop giant JYP Entertainment has announced that Xdinary Heroes drummer Gunil is leaving the band after fan insult allegations.

On Thursday, August 13, the label issued a statement, sharing that following discussion with the drummer, the agency has terminated his contract.

"We are deeply aware of the seriousness of the situation regarding the recent matter involving Gunil, and had extensive discussions with the artist," the band's agency JYP Entertainment said in a statement.

It added, "As a result, we determined that it would be difficult for him to continue team activities and mutually agreed to terminate his exclusive contract. We would like to inform the public that Gunil will leave Xdinary Heroes as of today and conclude his activities with the band."

Xdinary Heroes will continue its activities as a five-member group.

Why did Gunil leave Xdinary Heroes?

While the label did not name the exact reason behind the decision, the contract termination came after Gunil landed in trouble for allegedly insulting fans, who were complaining about the band's concerts.

A post went viral this week, shared by an anonymous user claiming to be Gunil's ex girlfriend, who claimed that the drummer "often insults fans in front of me and is very different from how he normally behaves and appears on broadcasts".

The user added they had felt uncomfortable and wanted to talk about it but kept it to themself before eventually deciding to upload the post because "seeing him on a broadcast made it especially difficult".

Following the news of his departure from the band, fans of Xdinary Heroes backed the drummer, as they questioned the agency's sudden decision without addressing the allegations.

"I genuinely don't even know what to say other than i'm pissed off they didn't even directly address the 'issue' and it feels like they wanted to get it over with as soon as possible. it feels so rushed and unfair for everyone," one fan penned on X.

Another user questioned, "Can't you at least put him on hiatus first... why is it happening so suddenly."

"Why not clarify first, take your time to reflect, then enlist and come back as a better person? it's either gunil panicking, jyp's pr team being incompetent, or jyp just being rotten as a whole," read another post.

Another X user highlighted their frustration, noting, "you're never gonna convince me that guniI would leave willingly. that band was his EVERYTHING and now it's all gone because of what, as we know it, are screenshots from an anonymous twitter user posted less than 24hrs ago? f--k off."

Moreover, fans also claimed that the voice notes shared alongside the original post were AI, as they continued to call out JYP for not dealing with the issue in a more calm manner.
