The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) has joined the investigation into the death of Hayden Panettiere.
On Wednesday, August 19, sources revealed that the actress' death will also be looked into by the DEA in order to find out the exact cause of her death.
Hayden Panettiere dies at 36
Best known for her roles in Heroes and Nashville, Hayden passed away on Sunday at the age of 36 at an apartment complex in Greenville, South Carolina.
Previously, the Greenville County Coroner's Office said that her cause and manner of death could only be revealed after further investigation and that there were no obvious signs of trauma and "foul play".
However, officials were reportedly heard discussing an "overdose" and "cardiac arrest" on a 911 call at the time of her death.
Hayden Panettiere's ex-boyfriend questioned by police?
A police report also said her on-again, off-again boyfriend Brian Hickerson and his brother were at the South Carolina townhouse when the actress was pronounced dead by authorities.
Brian was later visited by police, according to a redacted police report.
The responding officer, identified in the report as Matthew Bryan, said he first spoke with Zach, who was "very emotional" while emergency medical services professionals were "working on Hayden".
Meanwhile, the report suggested that Brian did not become visibly emotional until EMS declared Hayden dead.
Brian showed police a "bag of medication" that Hayden was taking when she tragically passed away.

It was reported by TMZ that the Scream franchise star had quietly rekindled her romance with her on-again, off-again boyfriend before her shocking death.
Hayden Panettiere had been open about her struggles with alcohol and opioid addiction and went into detail about her struggls in her memoir, This Is Me: A Reckoning, released earlier this year.
It was reported that DEA agents will be assisting the parallel investigations currently underway by the Greenville County Coroner’s Office and the Greenville Police Department.

Her final big-screen appearance came earlier this year in the movie Sleepwalker.
