Max Verstappen has signed new contract with his “second family” Red Bull, extending stay until 2030.
After widespread speculations and predictions regarding the four-time world champion future move and joining new team, Red Bull on Thursday, August 20, announced a new long-term contract.
According to Sky Sports, the announcement came after Verstappen management reportedly held talks with McLaren earlier this year for 2027 switch.
The 28-year-old’s contract with Red Bull was due to expire at the end of 2028. However, after new contract he will stay at the team for at least next four years.
Second family
Verstappen after signing new deal call Red Bull his home and second family while vowing to get back to the top again.
Verstappen said, “We have the best people and I'm excited to keep working together with everyone to get back to the top again. This remains the ultimate goal that all of us have been working towards and will continue to pursue. I have always said it: the team is like a second family for me and I feel very at home.”
“I came to the team hoping to be able to win races. What we went on to achieve together has been simply lovely and we have shared many incredible moments and won four World Championships. To continue this journey with the same team that I have been with my whole career is really special and something I have always wanted to do," he added.
Verstappen, who is currently sixth in the Drivers' Championship and 110 points behind Kimi Antonelli ahead of this weekend's Dutch Grand Prix.
Verstappen's best results this year have been two second places, in the Austrian and Hungarian Grands Prix, after coming within two points of beating McLaren's Lando Norris to the world title last season.
