Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid made a surprising revelation as the team wrapped up training camp. Despite being a veteran entering his 14th NFL season, star tight end Travis Kelce worked so hard that coaches had to physically pull him off the practice field to rests.

Oldest player setting the pace

At 36 years old, Kelce is currently the oldest player on the Chiefs’ roster. However, he continues to practice with the energy of a rookie. As the Chiefs finished their camp sessions, Reid explained that coaches constantly had to step in.

“You have examples like Kelce, he’s the oldest guy on the team and came out every day and worked to where you had to yank him out of there to give him a breather,” Reid shared.

No excuses for younger teammates

Kelce’s intense work ethic did not go unnoticed by his teammates. Linebacker Nick Bolton praised the veteran’s dedication to showing up every day regardless of how he felt physically.

“There’s no excuses when you have the old guy out there running routes and stuff like that,” Bolton noted. “It’s been fun to watch him work.”

Keeping the energy high

Besides working hard, Kelce brought plenty of personality to practice. Reid mentioned that Kelce enjoyed teasing offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy during drills.

“He likes to give EB the business and that’s always entertaining too,” Reid said. “So, it keeps everybody on their toes.”

Leading by example

By pushing himself through tough summer practices, Kelce set a powerful standard for Kansas City’s young core as they prepare for the upcoming season.
