Mojtaba Khamenei health update: Rare video released as Iran counters rumors

Iranian media published archival video showing Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei presiding over an academic study session. The clip marks the first time his voice has been heard publicly since taking office.

In the footage, he evaluates a student’s work on the “Islamic Security Model” and calls the thesis “flawless.”

Health rumors swirl

The clip arrives amid speculation about Mojtaba’s condition after the military strikes that killed his father. Reports from international outlets claimed he suffered severe injuries and remained in “bad shape” or “extremely critical condition.”

State outlets released the clip to counter these claims but the undated footage leaves his current health status unverified.

Government pushes back

Iranian leaders quickly dismissed reports of poor health. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian rejected the claims stating that Mojtaba is “completely healthy.”

To reassure the public, Pezeshkian added that “someone who can sit and discuss for seven to eight hours cannot have any health problems” after their recent meeting.

Low public profile

Since assuming leadership, 56-year-old Mojtaba has avoided live public events. Instead, he communicates primarily through written statements or official channels while managing government affairs.

Media outlets note that because the video is undated, it fails to offer definitive proof of his physical condition today.
