New York police are actively investigating a shocking viral video showing three individuals popping open a sewer street cover and climbing out of a manhole in Midtown Manhattan near Penn Station.
Late-night underground activity
The footage captured around 4:00 a.m. at 32nd Street and Seventh Avenue, displays a trio equipped with headlamps and protective suits surfacing from the street opening before walking away.
One witness shared that “they looked professional, like they knew what they were doing.”
Safety warnings issued
City officials rushed to inspect the sewer network following the incident. The Department of Environmental Protection confirmed no infrastructure damage occurred. However, officials warned the public about the dangers of underground tunnels.
They stated, “Sewers can contain numerous hazards including noxious and potentially deadly gases, unstable surfaces, flooding risks and confined spaces.”
Patterns of mystery incursions
This latest discovery follows similar suspicious occurrences across New York City. In previous months, multiple groups wearing waders and headlamps emerged from manholes in Brooklyn and Queens.
Authorities believe the trespassers might be urban explorers or treasure hunters looking for dropped valuables under city streets.

Law enforcement officials noted that they “don’t believe there’s any connection to terrorism.”
