Former rivals Islam Makhachev and Alexander Volkanovski set their past octagon battles aside during a recent joint interview. Makhachev extended an open invitation to the featherweight champion to travel to Russia and join his camp.
He urged Volkanovski to stay for an extended training trip encouraging him to spend two or three weeks training together in the mountains.
A politely declined offer
Volkanovski politely declined the long-term commitment preferring a much shorter visit instead. Expressing a quick trip preference, Volkanovski remarked:
“I might not have two, three years but I will have two or three days. So two, three days hunting in the mountains, cooking.”
Playful exchange over permissions
When Makhachev insisted two days was not enough and jokingly advised him against asking for spousal permission, Volkanovski laughed off the banter. Reaffirming his family ties, Volkanovski told Makhachev:
“I won’t say that to you but I will have to actually ask my wife. But she’ll love it.”
Focus shift to upcoming bout
Rather than altering his preparation, Volkanovski remains focused on his upcoming title defense against Movsar Evloev at UFC 333. The Australian fighter declined full-scale joint training to keep his training rhythm ahead of the high-stakes matchup.
