Pierce Thiot has passed away.

On Friday, August 28, The Hollywood Reporter reported that the creative executive at Ryan Reynolds’ production and marketing company Maximum Effort died suddenly at the age of 40.

According to the company, Thiot passed away on August 24 at his home in Orem, Utah. They also shared that his cause of death was pulmonary embolism.

“A pulmonary embolism (PE) is a blood clot that travels to your lungs from somewhere else in your body and blocks blood flow. Usually, the clot starts in a vein in your leg or pelvis. It breaks free and moves through your bloodstream until it reaches your lungs, where it gets stuck in a blood vessel and obstructs the passage of blood,” as per Cleveland Clinic.
