Lil Nas has lost his mother!
The American rapper, whose real name is Montero Lamar Hill, is mourning the loss of his mother, Tameka Hill, who died at the age of 48.
On Saturday, August 29th, Nas turned to his Instagram account to share the emotional tribute as he announced the death of his beloved parent.
"RIP TO THE BADDEST EVER! LOVE U FOREVER MOMMY. This one's gonna hurt," the Old Town Red crooner captioned his post.
He also released a handful of throwback images featuring his late mom, leaving the internet in a frenzy.
The emotional post marks a deeply personal moment for the artist, who has spent the past year publicly addressing his mental health and recovery.
However, he has not shared his mother's cause of death or the additional details of her mass funeral.
Lil Nas' mental health struggle
This deeply personal update came after Lil Nas broke his silence on his constant struggle with mental health and his journey.
In his statement shared in June of this year, the rap icon revealed that he had spent several months in rehabilitation while working toward recovery.
On June 17, he shared a two-minute video as he thanked fans for supporting him and confirmed that he was receiving professional treatment.
"There is new music on the way," he told fans at the time, while making clear that he was not ready to return fully to music just yet.
The rapper also revealed that he now works with both a therapist and a psychologist.
He also confirmed that he had been diagnosed, with the idea of discussing the diagnosis because he feared it would change how people viewed him.
Lil Nas's personal life
For those unaware, Lil Nas's mother, Tameka Hill, shared him with his father, Robert Stafford.
His parents got separated when the rapper was just six years old, and he initially lived with his mother in Atlanta before his father gained full custody when he was around nine or ten years old.
