Following a visit from President Emmanuel Macron, King Charles and his wife Queen Camilla will host Oman's Sultan Haitham bin Tariq at Windsor Castle for a state visit.

State visit details

According to Buckingham Palace, the visit will take place from October 20 to October 22 and will come amid the escalating tensions in the Middle East since US-Israel attacks began on Iran, prompting retaliatory strikes on Israel and Gulf States that host US bases.

"His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, Sultan of Oman will pay a State Visit to the UK as the guest of Their Majesties The King and Queen from Tuesday 20th to Thursday 22nd October 2026," confirmed Palace on Thursday, September 3.

The visit also comes in the backdrop of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle return to the UK, as the pair made their return to the Duke's home country with their children after six years.

It was also reported that their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet are set to attend school in the UK, while the timeline of their stay remain unconfirmed.

King Charles has been observing a busy year, as the British royals have hosted state visits by President Donald Trump in April and Nigerian President Bola Tinubu in March this year.

Why President Macron visited the UK?

President Macron and his wife Brigitte visited UK for the viewing of the Bayeux Tapestry, the embroidered account of William the Conqueror's invasion of England in 1066, in London.

Believed to have been made in England, the 70-metre work is back on British soil for the first time since its creation.

It will feature in an exhibition opening September 10, running until July 11, 2027.

Notably, King Charles and Sultan Haitham bin Tariq last met on July 4, 2025, for a private lunch at Windsor Castle during a working visit.
