Duchess Sophie has marked one more year, carrying forward her powerful mission through her rock-solid efforts!

This year is about empowering the matriarchal approach, as Her Royal Highness officially marked the 2026 International Day of the Girl Child on Sunday, October 11, 2026.

The occasion was initially declared to be observed worldwide on December 19, 2011, by the United Nations General Assembly via UN Resolution 66/170.

Since its was allowed to celebrate Duchess Sophie has been championing the mission, aiming to end women, girls’ related societal issues, including child marriage, gender inequality, gender-based violence and others.

However, this year the Duchess of Edinburgh decided to take her unshakeable message to the lands of South Sudan as she doubled the celebrations by marking the 20th anniversary of Juba Secondary School.

Duchess Sophie pens heartwarming note

The British Royal Family’s social media organisers have highlighted Prince Edward’s life partner’s overseas mission, which she undertook in 2020 and witnessed firsthand experience "how the school empowers girls through education."

On the 20th anniversary, Duchess Sophie penned a special message to Juba Secondary School, writing, "Dear Teachers, Parents, and of course, Students, it is my great pleasure to congratulate you on your 20th anniversary, which you are celebrating this year."

"I fondly remember my visit to your school in March 2020, and I am truly pleased to hear of your continuing success and the values you represent," she added.

The mum of two went on, "Education remains our most precious resource in building a brighter future for all. It gives us the tools to overcome poverty and obtain opportunities, the answers to end conflicts, and the hope that we can all live fulfilling lives."
