The 66-year-old English TV personality was forced to step away from the ongoing Season 21 of America’s Got Talent to undergo a “routine back surgery” due to his 2020 bike crash incident.
During his time away, Kenan Thompson has joined the panel as guest judge.
Cowell’s absence form the show left fans worried as they began searching for the reason why he did not appear on the show.
Howie Mandel Gives Health Update on Simon Cowell
Speaking to E! News on September 3 at his Los Angeles podcast studio, Simon Cowell’s fellow America’s Got Talent judge Howie Mandel shared an update on his health, revealing that the 66-year-old’s surgery was successful.
“As I talk to you, he is just hours out of surgery. I heard that it was a success, everything's okay,” he stated, jokingly adding, “I haven't called him yet. I don't know that, this close to surgery, if this is the first thing you need to see."
He went on to say that he "can't wait to see him and visit him and give him my best wishes."

On Sunday, August 23, TMZ reported that Simon Cowell was forced to leave the America’s Got Talent Season 31 for a few weeks to undergo a surgery.
According to the report, the Pop Idol judge had to undergo “routine back surgery” in the aftermath of his horror bike crash in 2020.
The terrifying incident, in which Cowell fell of a powerful electric bike, left him with a broken back and almost paralyzed.
At the time, the talent show host suffered multiple fractures in his back and underwent a lengthy, six-hour surgery to repair the serious injuries, with doctors inserting a metal rod into his back.
