UFC CEO Dana White has officially confirmed that former champion Ilia Topuria is cleared and fully prepared to return to action inside the Octagon.
Speaking on “The Jim Rome Show,” White revealed that while the promotion does not yet have a firm event date booked, the organization is ready to lock in his next appearance.
Rapid recovery following tough loss
Topuria’s status had been uncertain after suffering a stoppage loss to Justin Gaethje at UFC Freedom 250 in June 2026. The grueling bout left Topuria with multiple facial fractures and foot injuries, raising concerns that he might remain sidelined through early 2027.
However, the 29-year-old fighter’s recovery has progressed significantly faster than expected. White assured fans that the UFC remains in constant communication with Topuria’s team and is actively looking to secure his path forward.
Two blockbuster matchups on the radar
While Topuria’s next opponent is not yet finalized, White highlighted two major options: an immediate rematch against Justin Gaethje or a long-awaited grudge match against Paddy Pimblett.
A second fight against Gaethje gives Topuria a direct path to avenge his sole professional loss. Meanwhile, a showdown with Pimblett settles a heated, personal rivalry that has built over years of public altercations.
White emphasized that the UFC wins with either matchup, signaling that an official fight announcement could land soon.
