Rockstar Games is scheduled to launch Grand Theft Auto VI on November 19; however, Xbox Game Pass subscribers should not expect the eagerly awaited title to be included at release.

A report suggested GTA 6 will remain inaccessible through Xbox Game Pass on launch day. PC gamers will also miss out initially, as the game is not planned to release on PC.

If the report turns out to be true, then gamers who are interested in experiencing GTA 6 following its release will require to buy the game and play it on an Xbox or PlayStation console.

However, GTA 6 could eventually join Xbox Game Pass. Previous games in the series have appeared on Microsoft's subscription service, including Grand Theft Auto V.

The game was added to Game Pass several times, most recently in 2025, ahead of leaving the service on April 15, 2026.

Currently, players are required to wait for years before GTA 6 reaches the subscription library. GTA V was launched in 2013, but it remained unavailable on Xbox Game Pass until over six years later.

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has previously expressed skepticism about putting major new releases on subscription services from day one. He said the company was concerned that launching its biggest games directly through subscriptions would not make economic sense.

Previously, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has expressed skepticism regarding putting significant new launches on subscription services from day one.

He stated, "We've supported various subscription services and we're happy to do so."

"Our scepticism has been around making frontline console products available day and date with subscription. That doesn't make any sense to us, because economically speaking, we don't think consumers are prepared to pay for that. And we can't afford to turn our business upside down in a way that doesn't make sense economically. There always has to be an intersection between what the consumer wants and what the publisher is able to do. And you know, it doesn't make sense to do that for our properties," Zelnick added.

Xbox Game Pass offers hundreds of games depending on the plan, with the $22.99-per-month Ultimate tier providing access to more than 500 titles and selected day-one releases.

GTA 6 has yet to officially confirm whether the game will be officially available for Xbox Game Pass subscribers.
