Amy Ryan is set to step into a shocking criminal role for her new project.
On Friday, September 11, Deadline reported that the Gone Baby Gone actress has been locked In to play an antagonist opposite Emilia Jones in Netflix’s new drama series, The Retrievals.
The series, which is inspired from Susan Burton’s NYT podcast of the same name, will follow the story of several in vitro fertilization (IVF) patients who come together to seek justice from Yale University after discovering that they had undergone the egg retrieval surgery without proper anesthesia due to a nurse stealing fentanyl, an analgesic and anesthetic.
In the upcoming thrilling show, Amy Ryan is set to play Carla Russo, a longtime nurse at Yale Fertility Center nurse who admitted to stealing large amounts of fentanyl and diluting it with saline, causing many patients to go through painful egg retrieval procedure without sufficient anesthesia.
Meanwhile, Emilia Jones will portray Gabby Clemente, one of Carla Russo’s victims, who becomes the leading figure in a major legal case against Yale University, fighting for justice for herself and the other patients.
The Retrievals is written and executive produced by the Maid and Sirens creator Molly Smith Metzler, and will be helmed by Lila Neugebauer.
Metzler will executive produce the series through her Quiet Coyote banner alongside Colin McKenna and LuckyChap, with whom she previously worked on Maid and Sirens.
LuckyChap’s executive producers include Dani Gori, Tom Ackerley, and Margot Robbie, while additional executive producers are Caitlin Roper for The New York Times and podcast writer Susan Burton.
