Widow’s Bay has proved that it’s definitely not “cursed!”
At the annual 78th Primetime Emmy Awards, held on Monday night, September 14, at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, Matthew Rhys and Kate O’Flynn starrer comedy horror TV series made history by winning record-breaking number of accolades.
The show won 14 Emmys in one season, the highest ever for a comedy series, making it an unforgettable night for the cast and crew.
At the event, Widow’s Bay won awards in 14 different categories, which include Best Comedy Series, Best Lead Actor in a Comedy Series (Matthew Rhys), Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series (Stephen Root), Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series (Kate O’Flynn), Best Directing for a Comedy Series (Hiro Murai), Best Writing for a Comedy Series (Katie Dippold), and Best Comedy Guest Actress (Betty Gilpin).
It also won Best Casting for a Comedy Series, Best Cinematography for a Series (Half-hour), Best Music Composition for a Series, Best Music Supervision, Best Production Design for a Narrative Program (Half-hour), Best Sound Editing for a Comedy or Drama Series (Half-hour), and Best Sound Mixing for a Comedy or Drama Series (Half-hour).
As he received multiple accolades, Rhys got a standing ovation from the crowd, thanked his Widow’s Bay costars and crew, and also expressed love to his family.
“Obviously my parents, they just kicked me onto a stage at a very early age. My sister... thank you for all the sage words and patient listening. Finally, to the great and good people of Wales who were just as much a nurturer as anyone else, we are a small but mighty nation,” he said.
Posing with two of his Emmys backstage, the Welsh actor noted, “The celebrations will be long, varied, and I hope at times wild.”
