Ellie Goulding has seemingly thrown a subtle shade at Ed Sheeran after his statement explaining the Macklemore situation landed him in more trouble.
The Shape of You singer released a lengthy statement on Tuesday, September 15, claiming that the decision to remove Macklemore from the tour after his "Free Palestine" chant was not his but the promoter's and he does not use his platform for politics as his audiences include "young people, often children, of all backgrounds".

Following his statement, Ed's concert openers, including Finneas, Lukas Graham, Aaron Rowe and Beoga, an Irish band, withdraw from the tour in support of Macklemore and Palestine, as they share their stance against the genocide in Gaza.
"Artists must not be silenced when they speak up for the oppressed. I have decided to withdraw from my upcoming tour dates with Ed Sheeran. I stand with Palestine and its people," Finneas wrote on Instagram.

As Ed continues to receive backlash for his statement, Ellie Goulding, who was speculated to be romantically linked with the singer in 2013, posted a single emoji on X, which fans think was a response to the scrutiny Ed is facing.
