Lizzo is choosing peace over proving her point.

During her October 4 appearance on Sunday TODAY with Willie Geist, the Pink singer discussed the dismissal of a 2023 lawsuit filed by Asha Daniels against her touring company, Big Grrrls.

She also addressed a separate 2023 lawsuit from three former backup dancers, who accused her of sexual and racial harassment and creating a hostile work environment.

“I had to make peace with the fact that there’s a version of Lizzo that exists now that the world controls the narrative and I don’t,” Lizzo (real name Melissa Jefferson) said. “But what I can control is who I really am.”

Asked by Geist, 51, whether she felt the need to defend herself, Lizzo said, “I’m not a fighter, I’m a lover.”

“I think that is the business that I’m in now, because I do realize it’s a headline game,” she added.

The Boys singer shared, “I’m like, okay, how many headlines can I have out there about the things that I’m doing that I’m proud of? And that I actually did?”

Lizzo described her experience with the lawsuits as “an opportunity for growth,” saying it allowed her to reflect, work on herself and ultimately become someone she could “fall in love with.”

Why Self-protection, emotional resilience and choosing peace is important

Self-protection, emotional resilience and choosing peace can help safeguard your mental well-being.

Together, they allow you to set boundaries, manage difficult emotions and protect your energy without shutting yourself off from the world.

Protecting your peace can start with setting boundaries, building emotional resilience and accepting that not every situation requires a response.

Experts recommend limiting draining interactions, acknowledging difficult emotions and focusing on what you can control rather than trying to change others.
