Elizabeth Siders, the Ohio mother of 16 children found living in shocking conditions, pleaded not guilty Wednesday to serious child endangerment and sex abuse charges.
Court appearance in Vinton County
Siders, 33 or 34, appeared in Vinton County Court of Common Pleas on September 16, 2026. She entered not guilty pleas to 19 counts of child endangerment plus two counts of sexual battery and two counts of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor.
Her total bond rose to $550,000 after the judge added $250,000 for the sex charges on top of her existing $300,000 endangerment bond.
How the case began
Authorities discovered the children on June 30, 2026, while serving a search warrant at the family’s small home in Hamden, Ohio. Investigators said the kids, ages roughly 18 months to 18 years, lived mostly in a 12-by-12 foot room in filthy conditions.
Some could not read or write (the oldest, an 18-year-old described as developmentally disabled, could not spell or write her own name) and needed urgent medical care. Ohio officials called the scene a “house of horrors.”
Siders was arrested with her husband, Gary Siders Jr. and his parents. The sex abuse charges stem from a separate 2022 case involving a relative who was between 13 and 16 years old. That victim is not one of the 16 children.
Attorney raises competency concerns
Her lawyer, Thomas Stolly, said Siders still asks about her children by name and wants to send messages, especially for upcoming birthdays. He requested a competency evaluation, noting she married young, has been pregnant much of her adult life and received limited medical care. The court ordered her to have no contact with her husband or any victim.
Prosecutors call her a flight risk. The case continues as more details emerge about the family’s living situation and the related investigations.
