Taylor Swift is set to cement her music legacy with a groundbreaking new honor.
In a thrilling new update, CBS and MTV announces on Monday, September 21, that the 14-time Grammy winner is set to mark a historic new milestone by becoming the first recipient for a brand-new Video Music Awards (VMAs) honor for directorial vision.
According to the announcement, the Cruel Summer hitmaker will be honored with the first-ever MTV VMA Artist Director Award, a brand-new honor which will be awarded to artists who direct some or all of their own music videos.
The networks said that the award is being earmarked for artists “whose work behind the camera has expanded the possibilities of music video and advanced the art of visual storytelling,” and “celebrates a sustained and influential body of work from artists who have pushed creative boundaries and developed a clear directorial voice.”
As reported by Variety, Taylor Swift has directed all her music videos in recent years, including The Fate of Ophelia, Opalite, The Man, Cardigan, Willow, All Too Well: The Short Film, Anti-Hero, Bejeweled, I Can See You (Taylor’s Version) (From the Vault), and Lavender Haze.
She has been nominated for MTV VMA Best Director Award seven times, of which she has won four awards.
The Blank Space songstress is also the most awarded artist in MTV VMA history, holding 20 competitive wins.
MTV VMAs 2026 date, time and venue
The 2026 MTV Video Music Awards are set to take place live on Sunday, September 27, 2026, at 7:30-9:30 p.m. ET/ 4:30-6:30 p.n. PT at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, California.
It will be hosted by Snoop Dogg and will be broadcast live on CBS, simulcast on MTV, and streamed on Paramount+.
