Filipina tennis star Alex Eala enters the WTA 500 Singapore Tennis Open with a sharper, more aggressive style. Coach Sandro Viaene from the Rafael Nadal Academy revealed that the 21-year-old is hitting the ball significantly harder and moving faster than before.
Observing her game close-up during recent sessions, Viaene noted noticeable improvements across multiple areas of her game following a strong American swing that included her maiden WTA 500 title in D.C.
Favorable indoor setup
According to Viaene, indoor conditions in Singapore play right into Eala’s natural game. Consistent ball bounces allow her to swing with greater control and power.
Rather than overhauling her strategy, the coaching team advised the world-class athlete to maintain her aggressive, reliable rhythm while making tactical adjustments for the indoor surface.
Focused on the challenge ahead
As the tournament’s third seed, Eala kicks off her campaign in the round of 16 against Russian opponent Tatiana Prozorova. Despite fan excitement surrounding her appearance, Viaene emphasized taking the competition one match at a time.
He noted that no match is easy and praised Eala’s strong work ethic, coachability and ongoing coordination with head coach Joan Bosch as key factors driving her impressive career trajectory.
